This course is aimed at counsellors who acquired sufficient client work experience to contemplate the move into a clinical supervision role. You will explore different Supervision Models, including Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven-Eye Model of Supervision, looking at the interactions and the relationships between client, counsellor and supervisor and the internal and external influences on this. You will explore, the BACP Ethical Framework of Clinical Supervision, The Developmental Supervision Models, how to supervise risk, negotiate a supervision contract, Transitional Analysis in Supervision, Karpans Triangle in Supervision, Solutions Focused Therapy Supervision, Creative Supervision and more..

Both Clare and Gillian have many years of experience working with counsellors in both a training capacity and as independent supervisors. They bring their knowledge and experiences to their training, providing a unique look into the world of clinical supervision. You will have access to your personal online Profile, with access to recourses given withing the course. You will self-source and supervise a minimum of 2 counsellors throughout the course and have supervisory supervision for 1 hour a month with an experienced supervisor. You will also need to be working as a counsellor, receiving monthly supervision.
Awarding Body
The Counselling And Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) is a specialised awarding body managed by professional practitioners, supervisors, trainers etc. It is the UK’s biggest provider of counselling qualifications in which there are 130 recognised training centres in the UK with 10,000 candidates registered annually.
Ethical Framework
The BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in the Counselling Professions (2018) is central to the philosophy, approach and operation of the programme and all programme training staff agree to work within it. The Ethical Framework can be downloaded from www.bacp.co.uk.
Course Requirements
Classes are held over Zoom, Thursday 9.30am – 3.30pm. Students will be expected to be in supervised client work with a minimum of two clients per week. To commit to a reflective journal and regular self-care activities. To be a member of a professional body. To be aware the content of the course may impact the student's well-being, therefore, be willing to enter personal therapy if the need arises. You will be expected to self-source 2 qualified counsellors to supervise their work, whilst having a minimum of 1 hour of supervisory supervision per month.
Once we receive your application form, we will ask for a reference from your counselling supervisor.
Entry Requirements
19 years or over,
Completed the following courses:
- A CPCAB Level 5 Diploma, either Psychotherapy Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Counselling Children and Young people.
- OR CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) and at least 2 years post-qualifying experience of supervised client work.
